“Radiant, compelling, lyrical and touching” (Der Opernfreund)

“The solo soprano blossoms like an angel in luminous heights” (Kölnische Rundschau)

„The vibrant and colourful Soprano of Anna Herbst is a true discovery“ (Kölner Stadtanzeiger)

The Cologne-born soprano Anna Herbst, laureate of the German National Singing Competition and recipient of a scholarship from the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation, is in demand internationally both in concert and on the opera stage.

Her concerts have taken her to the Kölner Philharmonie, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Tonhalle Zurich, Philharmonie de Paris, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, De Singel Antwerpen, Leidsche Schouwburg, Müpa Budapest, the large broadcasting hall of the WDR, the chamber music hall of the Deutschlandfunk, the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, as well as to international festivals in France, Italy, Spain, Hungary, BeNeLux and Switzerland.

She has worked with famous conductors such as Thomas Hengelbrock, Péter Eötvös, Paavo Järvi, Andris Nelsons, Pablo Heras-Casado, Peter Neumann and Dorothee Oberlinger.

Early on during her training and studies with Prof. Kai Wessel, Prof. Henner Leyhe and Prof. Josef Protschka, she discovered her musical home in Early and Contemporary Music and in lieder singing.
Numerous international master classes with Dame Emma Kirkby, Edita Gruberova, Silvana Bartoli-Bazzoni, Paul Agnew, Sissel Hoyem-Aune and Krisztina Laki round out her education.

Anna loves experimenting and discovering new things. So in 2020 (in the middle of the first Corona Lockdown) she had the idea to bring people together for a German-Chinese song recital that was broadcast live on Deutschlandfunk worldwide.

Numerous radio, television and CD productions document her artistic work.
Current projects include world premieres in France and Switzerland and concerts with the Hamburger Ratsmusik, Barockwerk Hamburg, the Kölner Akademie, Ensemble 1700, at the Bachfest Leipzig, Barockfestival Bad Arolsen, Schlossfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci, Tage Alter Musik Herne and at the Forum Alte Musik in WDR3.

In Spring 2023 her new Lieder-Album “Linden Tree and Lotus Blossom” will be published by Coviello Classics.
